BAY Mediation & Arbitration Services is excited to welcome Judge Jerry W. Baxter to its team of neutrals. Judge Baxter joins BAY after serving a distinguished 42-year career in the Fulton County Courts, which includes various positions such as Assistant Solicitor-General, Assistant District Attorney, State Court Judge, Superior Court Judge, and now a Senior Superior Court Judge. As a trial lawyer, he tried more than 100 jury trials. As a judge over the last 31 years, he has tried hundreds of civil jury trials, including numerous Complex Personal Injury, Products Liability, and Medical Malpractice cases.

Judge Baxter recalls certain cases that highlight his career in the judicial circuit. In the 1980s, he presided over a product liability case where a woman was killed in a head-on collision. That case resulted in a settlement in excess of $30 million. At the time, the multi-million dollar settlement was one of the largest of its kind ever rendered in Fulton County. Also, he presided over a product liability case involving Ford Motor Company that rendered a $43 million verdict for a young girl who was paralyzed after an accident involving a malfunctioning latch on the vehicle’s back seat. Most recently, Judge Baxter presided over the widely publicized Atlanta Public Schools’ cheating scandal.

At BAY, Judge Baxter will draw on his experience on the bench and his participation in a variety of pre-trial discussions to better serve as a neutral.
